The Denkfabrik Digital Work Society at re:publica19. From May 6th to 8th, 2019, Hall 2 of STATION in Berlin became the temporary outpost of the Denkfabrik Digital Work Society of the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs (BMAS). As one of the main partners of re:publica19, we launched our new focus topic: Power and Cooperation in the digital (work) society. We discussed platform economy, artificial intelligence, work culture, and data protection, as well as data economy, digital cooperatives, social movements, and new forms of participation, placing these topics within a broader societal context through exchange with our speakers. However, it was not just about discussion; in addition to exciting keynotes and panel discussions, there were co-working opportunities, a lounge area with reading and workspace, and sessions on yoga and mindfulness.

Against the backdrop of the Federal Ministry of Labor’s current topics, Federal Labor Minister Hubertus Heil engaged in speed debating with representatives of youth organizations, discussing how power and cooperation dynamics are changing through and within digitalization and what perspectives the younger generation has on the opportunities and risks of digitalization.
